چکیده

Mangrove ecosystem is well known for the productivity. Fungi play an important role in the nutritive cycle and support the mangrove ecosystem. In the present investigation the authors tries to elucidate marine fungi in selected mangrove ecosystem of North Malabar region of Kerala. 30 marine fungi including 19 Ascomycetes, 1 Basidiomycete and 10 Mitosporic fungi were encountered. Backwater supported maximum marine fungal diversity than estuary. In terms of percent frequency of occurrence the most frequent species obtained were Lignincola longirostris, Verruculina enalia and Halosarpheia minuta. Eight species were found frequently. Twelve species were infrequently encountered. Seven species were recorded rare.

Isolation and Characterization of Marine Antagonistic Actinomycetes from West Coast of India

A total of 173 actinomycetes colonies were isolated from near shore marine environment and mangrove ecosystem at 8 different locations of Kerala, West Coast of India. Among them, 64 isolates were morphologically distinct on the basis of spore mass colour, reverse side colour, aerial and substrate mycelia formation and production of diffusible pigment. The majority (47%; n=30) of these isolates ...

Distribution of seaweeds in Mangrove forests

Many of the mangrove forests are characterized by macroalgae growing epiphytically on pneumatophores, prop roots, stems and other hard substrates. Mangrove macroalgae have an important role as primary producers in the estuarine ecosystem.
